The red-spotted belongs to the breeds derived from the Simmental.
In Italy the breeding of this race started in Friuli where it was crossbred with the local cattle.
At the beginning, in fact, it was called “Friulan red-spotted”. Only in 1985, after it spread all over the country, it was renamed “Italian red-spotted”.
In 1956 the Italian breeders association of red-spotted was founded ( Associazione Nazionale Allevatori Razza Pezzata Rossa Italiana A.N.A.P.R. official website www.anapri.it.)
This dual-purpose breed, beside producing milk and meat, is characterized by high resistance to mastitis and high fertility.
